Dry Garden
Area: 120 sqm
Using rugged stone, sculptural plants, and flowing water features, this design creates a private courtyard that is both serene and powerfully evocative.
Finding beauty in rusticity, the design extensively incorporates natural hewn boulders and hand-stacked rubble walls, breaking the cold lines of urban architecture. At the heart of the courtyard lies a water feature carved from a single stone—a spring flows across the rough rock surface, injecting movement and vitality into the dry landscape. The sound of flowing water not only masks external noise but also provides a visual sense of coolness.
Plants take on a sculptural presence. Towering Cereus cacti and agaves act as three-dimensional green sculptures, defining the courtyard's vertical layering. The plant selection prioritizes low-maintenance, climate-appropriate species, aligning with sustainable design principles while establishing a distinctive exotic character.
The walls employ a dry stone wall aesthetic, while the paving features large-format light-colored stone slabs. This combination maintains a sense of modern cleanliness while balancing the tones of contemporary wilderness with Mediterranean minimalism.
